Robert Louis Stevenson, the famous author, who wrote such classic as Treasure Island, was a frequent visitor to San Souci Beach, the secluded stretch of golden sand we call home today. As a guest of the kama'aina McInerny family, he enjoyed relaxing beneath a hau tree that shaded the lanai.
Then, as now, Sans Souci Beach was a lovely retreat on the quiet side of Waikiki -- a neighborhood of exclusive private clubs and a few elegant residences. And now, as then, it offers our guests Waikiki's finest beach for swimming, snorkeling, sailing, surfing and sunbathing.
An Overview of The New Otani Hotels
The first New Otani Hotel had its beginning in Tokyo 1964, and had the distinction of being the tallest building and largest hotel in Japan at that time.
The 15-acre Tokyo site for the New Otani was an especially significant one, with a long history of many famous Japanese families living there. The 17-story, 1,000-room hotel was built on a knoll within the grounds and surrounded by a 10-acre traditional Japanese garden.
In September of 1974, a new 40-story building was completed next to the first New Otani Hotel and renamed New Otani Hotel and Tower, with more than 2,000 rooms and 48 banquet halls, making it once again the largest hotel in Japan.

The personal warmth and hospitality of its family of employees, specializing in quality service, will continue to offer a truly Hawaiian experience.
This “jewel of a hotel” at the foot of Diamond Head is prepared for tomorrow by acknowledging the importance of aloha, a tradition of loving welcome which for hundreds of years has blessed the land and people of Hawaii.
